Move Into
The Future
This public art installation weaves together historical and forward-looking artwork by Black, immigrant and indigenous artists on the theme of abundance to transform our communities and exemplify how immigrant justice is a part of racial justice, and to inspire Black & brown youth to commit to abundance and racial solidarity.
For this project, I led our team and teamed up with Big Bowl of Ideas to produce the installation - a pair of 20-ft. tall wireframes of high top shoes with mounted artwork along with existing and newly commissioned artwork created by Tatyana Fazlalizadeh, Mer Young, and Brian Herrera.
To achieve racial justice, we can’t leave immigrants and refugees behind. And that means we need to educate, heal, engage and unite each other as we step forward. The giant wireframe sneaker sculpture taking steps forward debuted at Emancipation Park in Houston’s 3rd Ward, a historically Black and brown neighborhood.
The marketing strategy included Out of Home ads, TikTok and Instagram ads, a local influencer campaign to drive foot traffic to the installation, a website with a 360-degree virtual tour, calls to action, and a short-term narrative campaign with national influencers to jumpstart dialogue about immigrant justice as racial justice.
