The Undocu
Cookbook
As countless immigrant households sheltered in place to protect themselves from COVID-19, the UndocuCookbook celebrated the creative, love-filled meals and treats that our community brought to the dinner table to comfort our loved ones and take pride in our cultures.
The first-of-its-kind digital volume of The Undocu Cookbook, features 9 recipes by real immigrants and immigrant households with roots in Bangladesh, Honduras, Brazil, Mexico and more. During this time of great pain and grief, the joy, pleasure, and comfort of Black people, immigrants and people of color becomes more important than ever.
Using food and cooking as a new cultural vehicle, the cookbook ensured more people were able to connect with the immigrant experience and further solidified immigrant identities inclusive of various nationalities and races.
This digital cookbook was accompanied by a 3-part video series of young people cooking the UndocuCookbook recipes in their own homes, while sharing the stories of those who submitted the recipes.
These 3-videos received thousands of views organically, and were lauded for their ability to engage viewers through the infusion of cooking videos with storytelling. They are the inspiration for a 6-episode upcoming youtube series.
